Synergy
Synergy is when the interaction between two or more forces working together creates a greater effect than when the the forces were working on their own. Sometimes music videos include the likes of films or TV programs to publicise each other.
For example, Mika wrote a song for the 'Kick Ass' film a few years ago. The two production companies both clubbed together to make a music video for it which both the fans of Mika and the film 'Kick Ass' would enjoy, each doubling their views and purchases of the song and music video because of this. As this video includes scenes from both the film as well as the narrative which Mika stars in.
Lady GaGa and Beyonce's 'Telephone' included a lot of outside products and a very interesting one was the 'Pussy Wagon' from Quentin Tarantino's 2003 film 'Kill Bill vol.1'. This wasn't an instance where Tarantino was promoting the song or the song promoting the film. It wasn't planned it was just decided on a whim between GaGa and Tarantino. She said the following to E! News - "We were having lunch one day in Los Angles and I was telling him about my concept for the video and he said, 'You gotta use the Pussy Wagon!'"
Adele was tasked to write a single for the latest Bond film 'SkyFall' which again was used by each party to widen their viewing audience. 'SkyFall' being a very male dominated film they would gain more female viewers after the exposure that Adele had given them. Adele is a female singer and has a mainly female target audience, but with the clips from the newest Bond film in her music video give more and more male viewers the excuse to watch it. So they both gain more viewers for their future releases.
